SHH: How you feeling today troop? Thanks for sitting down with us. Why don’t you introduce yourself to the people.
Prime Legend: I’m good pimp! I feel blessed to be here right now. Things are coming along beautifully you know…Slowly but beautifully! 2008 is going to be a good year ya dig. Well let it be known I am the one and only Prime Legend. All others are nothing but a fraud and I say that cause someone else is trying to claim my fame! You know that’s a serious name to come up with, ya dig but uhh, I’m here now. The Mayor of Miramar! Yeah!
SHH: What’s up with the name Prime Legend? That’s a serious tag…
Prime Legend: Well how the name came about was I used to go by Rodimas Prime and if you’re not a Transformers the cartoon fanatic you won’t understand but uhh…Someone came out of nowhere saying he was DJ Rodimas so I changed. At the same time I’m a legend in the making so I just put the two together, Prime Legend ya dig!
SHH: Many people don’t know Miramar? Break down your city for us?
Prime Legend: Well Miramar is actually a small town right above Miami! We’re actually the first city you hit coming from Dade County. We sit on the county line parallel to Carol City! Miramar is a blend of New York, Miami, and the Caribbean countries all rolled in one! We got so much swag that’s why a lot of people hate us! They think we rich up here, but if you live east of 27th Ave you in the hood of Miramar. But if you west of 27th Ave, you were them rich folks at ya dig! But we the best, I don’t care what anyone says nobody does it like us!
SHH: Being from NY, but raised in the bottom, do you think you have a “musical advantage” over someone who is just from up North or someone rooted in the dirty South?
Prime Legend: Advantage….Maybe but uhh Jigga ain't from down here and he’s good so I don’t think it matters when it comes to becoming a big artist. It’s about good music but on the other hand, really and truly…hell yeah I got an advantage cause they can’t do it like me but at the same time other artists are either adapting pretty well or just coming hard and making good music and forcing the hand right now where you feel you got to listen to them you feel me. I’m what they call country-coated. So to answer your question, yes I think I do have an advantage but it don’t matter I could still flop and critics say, “Hey that kid got a hell of an album!” ya dig! It’s about marketing and promotions that make or break an artist today ya feel me!
SHH: “Southern Exposure 1.0”, your latest mix CD was a unique mixture of two distinctive, yet stereotypical styles of rhyming; East Meets South…
Prime Legend: I love that mix CD! That’s what makes me the best! My blend is undeniable! I got Brooklyn niggas calling me like yo son I love this shit! While I got G’s from Duvall down to Dade screaming Prime is next ya dig! Matter of fact you could get a free download of the entire mix CD off my MySpace. Go to myspace.com/primelegendthemayor.
SHH: Who are or were some of your influences…
Prime Legend: Influences…man I got a lot. Biggie is my all time favorite! That’s were most of the swag and confidence comes from ya dig! Scarface! Man, Face is the King of the South whether he wants to be or not! Straight up! I can’t forget Nas I love that nigga music fo’sho! Jay-Z, Ludacris, Raekwon, Outkast, Ice Cube, and Pac. There are a few others, I have such a love for hip-hop but there’s too many. I can’t name them all; but these here that I named have to be my biggest influences.
SHH: Speaking of influences; you are military brat.…
Prime Legend: My pops was a military dude that’s why he never had a problem with me carrying a gun. He just said, “Son, make sure you ain’t drunk when you using your pistol!”! (Laughs) You feel me! Yeah!
SHH: Is he supportive of your Hip-Hop endeavors...
Prime Legend: In the beginning….HELL NAH! After a while he knew all the fighting and bickering about me going to school and dropping this music shit wasn’t going to happen. So he became a bit supportive. He started helping me buy equipment and shit and now both him and my mom support me although they still feel a little school won’t hurt just in case ya dig!
SHH: You are a proud carrier of Haiti’s flag. Do you think that Haitians have gotten proper credit for their contributions to the Hip-Hop movement?
Prime Legend: Not totally! To be honest we got a few in the game that don’t emphasize being Haitian cause they think there’s some sort of disadvantage from it! Personally for me, Haitians run shit down here so I’m supported and loved down here and that’s what counts to me. The support of all your people! Not just Haitians but also my Jamaicans, Bahamians, Trinis, Americans and if course my Chicos they all support me to the fullest so it don’t matter. But I’m a let it be known proudly and if you don’t like it kiss your ass! (Laughs)Yeah!
SHH: Being Haitian, and coming out of Miami, do you feel any added pressure to come hard and correct?
Prime Legend: HELL NO! Like I said we run shit! No pressure added! I just do what I do! You got to understand, I’m independent. So in Miramar alone I’m selling 100,000 easily. There’s a lot of people waiting for the album. But I’m a perfectionist and extremely picky. Remember I’m a Legend in the making. It’s got to be Legendary. So I ain’t going to drop just anything! It’s got to be a movie when you listen to it!
SHH: You recently signed a demo deal with So Sik Soundz & MadScientistMultimedia...Any potent potions brewing…
Prime Legend: Oh most def. Shouts out to my dude M-Rell blessing me with some banging music! We got a joint called “Play At Your Own Risk” featuring Shonie and uhh we also got a joint called “Maniac” that is bananas brewing. Shouts out Nyce and Havoc of Mobb Deep, P keep ya head up nigga! I think me and Rell make a beautiful blend! He knows what I’m looking for and he brings it! Shouts out to my man Cal Repken at MSM he works hard for your boy and makes a lot of business happen for the kid ya dig!
SHH: What’s’ exciting about Hip-Hop right now and what’s’ disappointing?
Prime Legend: You know I love these kind of questions! I love where hip-hop is at! They say hip-hop is dead but it’s not! What happened was not a lot of positive hip-hop is being pushed through the mainstream and it’s not to say that there is no one doing it cause there are plenty of artists doing it but execs don’t see a dollar from it so they won’t push it! This is entertainment for the world now because so much money can be made from it now! That’s why back in the days hip-hop culture was deemed a fad and soon gone and you heard everything from that shoot’em up bang bang kind of music to some throw your Africa medallions on and power to the people kind of shit cause it was rebellious. So you heard it all but now that a dollar is involved to the utmost they only want to put out what they could make money off of cause it’s not beneficial to them! I have plenty of knowledge but money will allow me to push it further in other ways not just music like books! Kids need to read more! Fuck video games! I think it makes them lazy! Get him or her a bike for Christmas! Make they lazy ass work it out outside and play and have fun!
SHH: If rap continues to cater to ring tone sales and not quality albums/music, what will happen to Hip-Hop?
Prime Legend: Nothing! That will only last for so long!Everything is time limited! Nothing is forever! Understand this, there are artists putting out good music! Labels are limiting promotion to keep them in debt! They don’t want you to re-coup so they stop your promotions slow sales and make you keep dropping albums till you make back all the money they pushed out for you on every album. When you here an artist got $1.5 million…that’s just budget baby not for his pocket. That nigga ain’t rich he owe all that shit back! It’s a form of slavery but you love doing it so they continue! Some break through and prevail and others remain caught in the cobra clutch ya dig! (Laughs) And know this ringtone money is good money for the artist! That’s why they keep putting them out! Now personally I ain’t no ringtone rapper but I will have some ringtones poppin’ ya dig! (Laughs)
SHH: Besides you, who do we need to look out for coming out of Miramar, and why?
Prime Legend: Oh god! My whole city got killers coming out soon! My team of course, Collect Gang! Just so the world knows my nigga Webbz who is part of the group is going hard right now. He just dropped his mix CD Underdog with DJ Kronik and Big Chuck the President of Poe Boy Entertainment. So my dog is doing it big! My nigga Lord Zoe got a few things brewing. My young nigga Murph and Eddie Kane are both beasts, ya look out for them its going to be serious in ’08. I promise you that! Speaking of Poe Boy, Shouts out to Ross. I was his stunt double in his new video featuring R. Kelly called “Speeding”. I jumped off the bridge in the video where he runs from police! It’s the million dollar shot! Its crazy!
SHH: For the record, you’re a big dude right?
Prime Legend: Yes sir! Big, Black, and Beautiful! (Laughs) I’m a fat boy my nig but I fuck like crazy. I’m a man-whore! Nah I’m fuckin’ with you!
SHH: The following questions; I’m going to give you 2 choices, pick one……..
SHH: Are you more Heavy D (the ladies man) or Biggie (hardcore)?
Prime Legend: Both! Ladies love me and I simply don’t play that shit! (Laughs)
SHH: DJ Clue or Uncle Al?
Prime Legend: Both! I told you I’m country-coated. I am the best of both worlds and I love it! I can go to New York and enjoy everything and go anywhere down south and enjoy it all! I am the best of both worlds to the utmost!
SHH: Luke or Puffy?
Prime Legend: Now this one I’m a have to say Luke! If you seen the type of ass that Luke brings around and what the girls do down here when some Luke come on you’d understand. Now Diddy is a party animal. Dancing on tables and shit like that. Nah my big ass is breaking tables if I did that! (Luaghs) But Diddy got swag! He walks with class. I definitely give him that and he brought me my biggest influence ever, Biggie! So fuck it I guess both. Oh and don’t get me wrong although he doesn’t write rhymes and writes checks…that Goodfellas album with Bigs, The Lox, and Black Rob and Ma$e and all them was a classic! See…there’s not too many South niggas that will tell you that ya dig!
SHH: Outkast or Mobb Deep?
Prime Legend: You’re killing me! Both! The funny thing is both groups have kind of disappointed me with there last albums! I haven’t been satisfied with either of the two groups since Aquemini and Infamy. I love them both to the utmost but they haven’t been doing much for my taste buds! On a solo tip though Dre 3000 has been dropping jewels all over niggas songs like UGK’s International Playas (RIP Pimp C) and Prodigy got some new shit I watched on youtube.com that was bananas! So slowly but surely I’m sure I’ll be satisfied soon!
SHH: Jay-z or Scarface?
Prime Legend: Wow! What a comparison! I love these two dudes dearly! First and foremost nobody has a swag like Jigga, but I think he’s trying to hard to be the best and he has already achieved such status! Kingdom Come should have honestly been his last album because there was nothing else he could have possibly said that he hasn’t already. American Gangster is the old Jigga, but spitting at his best. I honestly believe he did that to satisfy himself because the streets didn’t like Kingdome Come. They did like it though! The kids didn’t! So he did American Gangster! But here’s something I don’t like! And this why I know media is full of shit! Everybody is screaming dope, dope, dope on every album and there sick of it but yet Jigga does it with more class and a bit more skillfully and it’s a classic. Ha! Stop sucking dick! Let’s move on! Now on the other hand Scarface’s voice is an instrument alone that can be played solo! He is immaculate! His stories are heartfelt! You feel the emotions when he raps. He’s brilliant and clever! You have to go get M.A.D.E. That album is on point from front to back! We’re talking about two kings of there territories! Whether they want to be or not! They are the best of their regions! Hate or Love it!
SHH: How could an inquiring fan go about getting their hands on your music? Samples or downloads……
