ARTISTS TO CHECK FOR IN 2008

1. Nickelus F (Richmond, VA): If you’ve heard his music you already know he constantly raises the bar lyrically and in 2007 he proved that he can handle the competition of battle when he swept BET’s 106 & Park Freestyle Friday segment and was the last emcee to do so before the segments hiatus. Nick was the only artist in VA to step up and give people a real perspective (in song) on the Virginia Tech Tragedy with his gripping song “Not Like This.” All this while holding it down for his state traveling from DC, Maryland, Philly & New York all Summer/Fall doing shows. In 2008 Nickelus F has a new single/video dropping first quarter, a European tour where he’s sharing the spotlight with Dead Prez and an album set for Summer/Fall 2008. With or without a labels support people are starting to see the potential in VA’s hometown hero all over the place. Nick is already considered in some circles to be the best new rapper to come in a long time (Probably since Jay-Z) and he has the tracks to prove it. It’s time to give credit where credit is due, no one thought Jay-Z could do it 12 years ago until he did and now it’s Nick’s turn. http://www.myspace.com/nickelusf

2. Drake (Toronto, ON): The inside news on Drake is that he’s the hottest artist out of Canada who labels are trying to snatch up when he breaks across US boarders. Well in 2007 he did, with a crazy single/video called “Replacement Girl” that featured Trey Songz.  The song was a YouTube and MySpace smash and got the attention of the people at BET, who debuted it on their 106 & Park show in April ’07. Drake was the first unsigned artist to have their song featured on the show. Drake and his single hit the road with Trey Songz in the spring of ’07 as well and took in more fans as they got familiar with his unique style. Drake is everything we wanted from Lupe Fiasco, but he can actually spit some real game and did we mention he’s also a TV/movie star as well? We’ll let you A&R’s sort that out when you Google the nigga. http://www.myspace.com/thisisdrake

3. Uncle Murda (Brooklyn, NY): This guy been rapping for so long and apparently killing for even longer. So why is he so hot? He’s not… People just want to see what the hype is about. For the past few years NYC has pumped out a lot of rappers who just don’t live up to the hype. Papoose, Jae Millz, Tru Life, Jae Hood and Joell Ortiz just to name a few. Record deals have come and gone, but with a name like “Uncle Murda” you got to wonder what this dude has to say. http://www.myspace.com/unclemurder

4. Loaded Lux (Harlem, NY): What separates Lux from the rest of these NYC rappers is that he’s been on TV & DVD and is still in trenches grinding. With a solid street buzz that can be felt from here to Europe; Lux has been on his grind battling and making music for almost 10 years. He’s only 23…. Fast forward to 2007 and he took a chance of battling on BET's 106 & Park and sweep the 7 week competition. With labels from Def Jam to G-Unit haggling for his attention Lux is primed and ready for the mainstream. http://www.myspace.com/loadedlux1com

5. B.O.B. (Atlanta, GA): B.O.B. has garnered comparisons to a Young Andre 3000 (“Players Ball” Andre, not “Hey Ya” Andre)… This dude can spit and he from the A. He already got himself a deal and is set to drop in 2008. He’s already getting praise from A-T-L’s elite and has songs with Rick Ross, Juvenile, Danity Kane and many more… Look for this kid to blow in 2008. http://www.myspace.com/bobatl

6. Prime Legend (Miami, FL): The land of blow and girls in bikinis year round has produced many of Hip Hop’s premier acts over the last 10 year (Just think it started with 2live crew & JT Money). Well Prime Legend is no 2Live Crew or JT Money, but he can spit some game and has the support radio and Florida based production company So Sik Soundz, Prime is on his way!.Dude already has a single buzzing on the radio out in Miami called “Play At Your Own Risk,” (Produced by M. Rell) and has be praised by hometown hero Rick Ross for his talent int he booth. http://www.myspace.com/primelegendthemayor

7. Dout Gotcha (Virginia Beach, VA): Dout been killin’ it for some time and is going for the gusto in 2008. He started as the deejay for The Clipse and moved up the food chain and got his strips officially on the mic in 2006. With a heavy buzz on radio and love from people all over Dout Gotcha is heading into this year at a nonstop pace. Did we mention he was featured in The Vibe magazine as VA’s top artist too look for in 2008. Not bad for a guy who came up doing mix tapes and deejaying. http://www.myspace.com/doutgotcha757

8. Bishop Lamont (Carson, CA): We’ve been waiting on this guy for as long as Dr. Dre has pushed back Detox. He’s the new face of the West and Dr. Dre’s new golden boy. Can he live up to the “Dre Standard?” We’ll see when Detox drops. http://www.myspace.com/bishoplamont

Bishop Lamont - Chicks On MySpace

9. Lil Eazy E (Compton, CA): Following in the footsteps of his legendary father Lil Eazy plans on taking the rap world by storm in 2008. He’s got a buzz building off his underground single produced and featuring Timbaland and he’s been in a low key beef with The Game that has had the streets buzzing since 2006. Right now Lil Eazy is primed to get out and go national with it. Look for him to drop in 2008 no matter what and carry on the legacy of his father. http://www.myspace.com/lileazye

Lil Eazy E - 123 Rocc

10. He’s a Jewish white boy from Brooklyn that can battle. That’s what makes him so intriguing to us. He’s got some decent bars and is creative so he’s something to check for. Haven’t heard one studio track from the boy yet, but I’m sure he can get some television money or something if he can’t be a studio rapper. Overall he embarrassed Jin on TV, won a bunch of YouTube battles, and took an L to Math Hoffa, but it was the hottest DVD this year hands down. http://www.myspace.com/ironsolomon
