The first Arab hip hop community website, Jota Lounge, launched May 15 by Nas Jota Records, the first Arab hip-hop production label to sign on Arab MC’s.
Nas Jota Records Founder and Producer Ehab Abasaeed notes that “the goal of creating Jota Lounge is to provide a gateway for all Arab hip hop artists to promote their music and provide them with a platform to shine amongst other international hip hop artists.”

Jota Lounge will consist of music and portfolios of videos and songs created by each artist for their profile. Every month, the artist with the most votes for best song will win a free video shoot. “For the first three months we will be shooting the videos in the DC area, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC,” Abaseed said.
People who register can expect to find information about these artists, pictures, videos, and events promotion. “We will also provide fans with exclusive interviews and news about the artists in the future,” Abasaeed added.

Abasaeed has been in the Arab hip hop industry since 2000. He is the first artist, along with his friend Ziad, to release an Arab hip hop album in the Middle East. The album “Zihab 2000” was released in 2000 by “SIDI,” the biggest CD manufacturer in KSA at the time. VIVA Entertainment’s Manager Majed Abdi, who was also SIDI’s General Manager at the time, strongly believed in the potential of Arab hip hop and has been an influential supporter of the movement to date.

In 2003, Abasaeed went on to form Nas Jota Records with the mission to bring Arab hip hop to the mainstream and bridge the gap between the Eastern and Western cultures through collaborating with Western Artists as well as Arabs.

Although the large number of youth followers of Arab hip hop, it has remained underground for over 10 years due to the lack of media attention and belief in the movement potential. “It’s time for Arab hip hop to come to the mainstream and with the help of the grassroots movement it is succeeding in doing so. This movement is like a tsunami. It’s going to hit the world from nowhere,” notes Abasaeed.

Jota Lounge is open for any artist that wants to promote their music. “The site provides opportunities to be seen and develop as artists,” said Abasaeed. Fans can also register as members.
