INTERVIEW AUDIO

Interview By Thomas Connor (Staff Writer)

SHH: So what’s been going on with Lil Lee since we last spoke?

Lil' Lee: Well, actually you know I hooked up with Green City early summer 2007, but besides that just grindin’. I go to the studio at least seven days out of the week. I got like a million and two records… I have dropped a series of mixtapes including  Syrup & A Soda Pop 2, I Do Dis  (hosted by my homie DJ Whut It Dew) and Weed-N-Pillz (hosted by DJ Fresh from out the Burgula Dj's camp). So yeah, I just try to stay as busy as possible.

SHH: Tell us about your new project Kick In The Door.

Lil' Lee: I'm very excited about this project. I had a lot of fun working on all of the records and it’s going to be crazy in a nutshell (Get it....?). As far as producers I got my man Tha Franchize on the joint, M-Rell, Conrizzle, Da Champ and Keith Kizer outof GA. So it's gonna have a pretty well rounded sound,  ya dig? And be on the look for the singles "Rabbit Ass Mind" and “Swag Like Mine" Produced by Jomeesius.

SHH: Is this your first album?

Lil' Lee: Really this is the first album I am putting out, but I have recorded several demo albums since I've been doing this. I feel this is my chance to really get in my work and do it right.

SHH: How long have you been rapping?

Lil' Lee: Seriously I've been spittin’ for about 5 years now. At first I use to get at it, but I hadn’t perfected my craft, ya dig!

SHH: How important has the mix tape been to your success?

Lil' Lee: Oh the mixtape game is a very helpful tool if you using it right. The purpose of the mixtape is to build a buzz leading up to your album so it will be flying off the shelf. Some artists expect to make mad gwaup off the mixtape so they put a lot into it and it ends up being better than their albums. Basically it's because they do what they are afraid to do on theirs albums on their mixtapes. Me personally, I do mixtapes for the people so they will know that I do this.

SHH: Where do you feel you place among all the rappers in the game and the others that are trying to get in?

Lil' Lee: I feel like Jada (kiss) on that note... The game is fucked up and niggas is garbage. I mean ain’t no feeling is the music no more niggas is recording what you want hear… Not what they feel. That’s why I fucks with Hov (Jay-Z) because he's always relevant to the issues. It's a bunch of publicity stunts and commercial rap just to sell, but fuck it get money content is nothing…  Iimage is everthing!

SHH: You’re from Richmond, VA. Many have said since Skillz has been the only rapper to have some success out the city, it’s been dead because of the “crab in a barrel” mentality. How much of that do you feed into?

Lil' Lee: Shit, I don’t feed into it at all! I can really rap so I don’t have to feed into it! Once the right person run across my talent we going to make history and that’s all she wrote. Tell them I said that!

SHH: You hit Skillz hard with a diss record in 2006 that had Richmond buzzing for a bit. Did he ever respond or reach out to you on your issues with him?

Lil' Lee: I mean through a mutual friend he just basically said that the record (Imaginary Richmond) wasn’t about me and that he has no problem with me or my camp. But I’ma tell you like this; if you make a record and call it “Imaginary Whatever City” and you lived there too and you kind of on and in the record you basically say that, “I'm on ya’ll ain’t…” As a person from that city you should feel some sort of way about it! My problem with niggas is if you fuck with a niggas raps or whatever and in a position to do something for that person, why not do it? Niggas won’t just tell you they can't do it they'll give you the run around every time they see you .They know you nice, but they don’t want to help you because might start getting more recognition than them. NOW THAT’S WHAT I CALL A HATER!

SHH: What’s your relationship like with him or other rappers in Richmond then?

Lil' Lee: I don’t have a relationship with him (no homo), but niggas is cool. I see niggas they respect me I respect them and we keep it like that. You want me on your records, freestyle whatever, no problem email me the record at lilleehandt@aol.com or greencityrecords@gmail.com or hit me or my manger up and he'll get me the track.

SHH: Tell us about your connection with Green City out of Texas.

Lil' Lee: Yeah! It’s all love over there. I talk to my homie Scotty Lee (The CEO) everyday about something or another. He a cool dude, but I don’t really know the others like that except for Spark Dawg, but it's still a good look long as we working together to reach the same goals.

SHH: You got nominated for an S.E.A. (Southern Entertainment Award) last year. How did that whole thing come about?

Lil' Lee: Actually I wasn’t nominated some dudes I never heard of were, but my squad was nominated for few of them, but I didn’t get to make it out to Tunica, Mississippi for the event.

SHH: What’s an average day for Lil Lee in his hood?

Lil' Lee: Shit, I wake up roll up, shower, shit, eat, get dress then I'm off to make my more rounds which is basically get all the money I can get for the day meeting the people I got meet and land in somebody’s studio before the sun come up the next day!

SHH: What’s up with Burglaz Entertainment for 2008?

Lil' Lee: Don't get it twisted I;m still a Burgula. Burgulaz E-N-T is still what it is! E-Skummy R.I.P and I got you homie, but just look for big things popping in 08! It’s the talk baby!
