PRODUCERS TO CHECK FOR IN 2007
1. M Rell: M Rell is no doubt our nigga and has grown with the site. Now he’s making it mainstream and landed the second single off of Young Hot Rod’s, Fastlane album with “Rock To It.” Not bad for a young dude who’s been on his grind since 2003 for dolo. In 2007 look for M Rell to be getting more work from G-Unit, Def Jam and also look out for him on projects from Nickel-Us F, Freeway, Cinque, Willy Northpole and his own artist Ericka Marie who will be dropping on his So Sik Productions imprint in 2007.
2. Lab Ox: Ox can be considered one of the hardest working young producers around. Got his big break in early 2006 when 50 Cent flew him to NYC to work with G-Unit after he heard Ox’s production on Young Hot Rod’s demo. From there they signed him on to do production for future G-Unit project and he also scored two placements on Rod’s debut album Fastlane. Look for Ox to be doing tracks for Lil Scrappy, 50 Cent and many more in 2007.
3. Boi 1da: Toronto has never had a super producer, but Boi 1da looks like he may be the one who puts T Dot on the map as far as production. He’s Toronto’s number one rappers (Drake) go to guy and has already produced songs with the likes of The Clipse, Trey Songz, Nickel-Us F and Stack Bundles. Look for Boi 1da to blow in 2007.
4. SoundSquad: The Squad consists of Majik, Young Los, Beanz, Shy, & DJ STC and they’ve networked with the right people and got their break when Jim Jones heard their beats from Stack Bundles and then they created the banger “Weatherman” with Lil Wayne & Stack for Jone’s Hustler’s (P.O.M.E). In 2007 SoundSquad is going to be doing their thing with more artists across the board and even getting into the reality television market. The future looks very bright for this group of young producers.
5. Chops: Been putting in work for years with fabled underground group the Mountain Brothers. A few years ago homie went solo and spread his wings on some underground remixes and then started to pitch some production to some Southern cats. Now you can check for Chops on an up coming single off of DJ Clue’s Professional 3 album (“Grill & Woman” ft. Mike Jones, Paul Wall & Bun B) Chops definitely got some crack!
