ARTISTS
TO CHECK FOR IN 2007 |
|
|
1.
Papoose: Papoose has a lot to prove in 2007. The odds are basically
against him and that $1.5 million won’t last forever… He’s
the most anticipated because he got more than 50 Cent on signing day. Now
he has to live up to that hype/money. We’ll see… |
 |
2.
Young Hot Rod: The new face of G-Unit is from Arizona? WOW! Well
we pegged Rod to be a winner last year and he sure got his work cut out
for him in 2007. Look out for him to be out first quarter with his debut
album Fastlane. |
 |
3.
Bishop Lamont: He’s been on for a minute, but 2007 will be
the year he gets his moment to shine. Lamont has been working closely with
Dr. Dre on his long awaited Detox album and is suppose to be one of the
main contributors behind the mic for it. So it should be a huge year for
Bishop Lamont in 2007. |
 |
4.
Rich Boy: This country boy came out of no where and is finally
getting it in. Scored a huge fourth quarter hit with the Polow Da Don produced
anthem “Throw Some Ds” and is set to have the likes of Timbaland,
Mannie Fresh and Kanye West working the boards on his debut, which is set
to drop in early 2007. Rich Boy’s a problem. |
 |
5.
Hell Rell: This Dipset emcee is one of the nicest on the mic we’ve
seen in a long time and he’s got his work in 2006 with features on
Cam’Ron, JR Writer and Jim Jones’s albums. Look for Hell Rell
to drop in 2007 with enough crack to put a hurting on the streets for real.
|
 |
6.
Nickel-Us F: The Richmond, VA emcee has stepped his game and worth
up another notch in 2006. While adding his flair to production of up and
coming producers like M Rell and SoundSquad. Nick also managed to drop two
critically acclaimed mix tapes (Cut The Check & How To Build A Buzz
For Dummies). Not to mention a collaboration with The Clipse and Drake that
was buzzing on the radio and mix tapes in spring ’06. Look for Nick
to be on projects with Little Brother and Skillz in early 2007. Nickel-Us
F has an effortless flow, lyrics like no other and a following that is growing
like the membership on MySpace… We see F doing some great things in
2007, so look out. |
 |
7.
MIMS: He’s been around since 2003 and has always been “one
hit away” as an independent. MIMS is one of those rare emcees from
NYC that broke out independently without a whole lot of NY talent co-signing
for him. His single, “This Is Why I’m Hot,” took off like
a rocket in 2007 and with the video just coming out for it, it looks like
MIMS is going to be doing big things in 2007. |
 |
8.
K-Cino: With new management and an All Star cast of multi platinum
producers, K-CINO is bound to get it in 2007! Look out for his long-awaited
debut solo album to make international noise. |
 |
9.
Drake: Since he started to take rap seriously Drake has been utilizing
all his resources to get to the next level with his music in everyway that
he can. His radio smash “The City Is Mine” crossed international
boarders and became an anthem for his city Toronto. Fast forward to fourth
quarter 2006 and Drake has a single with Trey songs called, “Replacement
Girl” that is already taking over his region. Look for Drake to cross
the boarder into the states once the video is done. |
 |
10.
Cashis: Was heavily featured on Eminem’s Re-Up compilation
and is one of Cali’s most watched emcees. He’s got a lot to
live up to considering his crew consists of some of the nastiest emcees
around. We look forward to seeing more of Cashis in 2007. |
 |
11.
Uncle Murda: This Brooklyn emcee came from obscurity to notoriety
almost over night. Well… Green Lantern co-signing for you is never
a bad thing. Uncle Murda has charisma, talent and hunger that will lead
him to big things in 2007. Look out for this dude. |
 |
12.
Curren$y (Young Money): Lil Wayne’s protégé
has been putting in his work consistently in 2006. A boat load of features
with Lil Wayne and an underground single that made noise nationally (“Where
Da Cash At” ft. Remy Ma & Lil Wayne)… Curren$y is definitely
on his way. |
 |
13.
Loaded Lux: Came on the scene as a battle rapper and ripped the
likes of Murda Mook and whoever else has been on those Smack DVDs. In 2006
Lux came back on the scene with some real heat and with the backing of The
A.C.E.S. Clik he’s going to be a strong force coming from NY in 2007.
|
 |
14.
Saigon: Well he was our #1 most anticipated last year, but his
buzz fell way off in 2006. Saigon is nice, but hasn’t found a way
to really break his special brand of street poetry into the mainstream yet.
Let’s hope 2007 gives him a little more freedom to spread his creative
wings as we anticipate his debut album. |
 |
15.
Big Kuntry: Some dedicated P$C followers already know him as the
husky brother featured on T.I.'s street anthem "Heavy Chevy’s,"(I'm
Serious) while others simply know him as the voice behind P$C's "I'm
A King". He is an instantly recognizable figure, but, he says, Its
not about fame, its about letting the country hear my voice. I just try
to keep it up and be consistent. Consistency and all-around grinding are
qualities that are promoted to the max in the P$C and the offices of their
record label, Grand Hustle. Big Kuntry has relentlessly pounded the pavement
with a wave of freestyles and songs popping up on DJ Dramas Gangsta Grillz,
Atlanta radio stations, and his own independent mix tape effort My Turn
to Eat. |
 |
16.
Balance: The Bay Area is definitely on the come up. He’s
been buzzing on the underground for sometime and in 2006 Balance took off!
He’s got songs with Chamillionaire, Glasses Malone, San Quinn, Mistah
Fab and Midi Mafia. He’s definitely doing his thing and will be someone
who will make noise in 2007. |
 |
17.
Bohagon: Blasted off 2006 with a hot single (“Wuz Up”
ft. Crime Mob & D4L) and also hopped on Lil Scrappy’s new album
and Yo Gotti’s album earlier this year. Bohagon is one ATL emcee you
can’t help but pay attention too. |
 |
18.
Swigga: Well to some old school early 90’s niggas he’s
best known as L-Swift from the Natural Elements crew. Now he’s reinvented
himself and made a serious comeback to music world with a brighter outlook
and a new lease on life. Swigga is a true school talent and can do it all.
Look for him to be doing more work in 2007 with the likes of Scram Jones,
J Armz, Eddie Brook and Nickel-Us F. |
 |
19.
Da Ranjahz: Former Carter Faculty/Def Jam recording artist are
back with a vengeance. Most known for the standout track "If I Should
Die" on Jay Z's 4.5 million selling album HARD KNOCK LIFE, The Ranjahz
have now aligned themselves with super producer Deric "D-dot"
Angelettie and his Crazy Cat Catalogue imprint. Using most of 2006 to regroup
and record look for The Ranjahz to impact in 2007 with upcoming mix tapes
alongside Statik Selektah, DJ Premier, Doo Wop and DJ Rerok. |
 |
20.
OnCue: Connecticut stand up you have a serious talent on the rise.
This teenage wonder has been rapping for almost 5 years and has caught the
ear of mix tape heavy hitters like DJ EFN and DJ Head Honcho. If all goes
well with his next release (I Piss Excellence) 2007 looks to be a break
through year for the “great white hope” from CT. |
