MIX TAPE DJ'S 2006 |
|
|
1.
DJ Drama: Ask any southern rap fan to name the most prominent DJ
in his region right now, and the words DJ Drama are sure to spew out of
his mouth. Introducing the rap world to platinum-selling Def Jam artist
Young Jeezy and ATL sensation Young Dro as well as keeping fans satisfied
with exclusive pre-albums from Lil Wayne, Young Buck, Bun-B of UGK, Eightball
& MJG and Project Pat with his Gangsta Grillz mix tape series, Drama
has supplied stirring street soundtracks to every block, back alley and
trap house like a pirate radio station on disc. |

2.
Statik Selektah: Statik Selektah has been putting his work on the
Boston scene for sometime now and it’s finally paid off. He’s
scored huge mix tapes for G-Unit, Nas and also has helped develop the career
of Boston rapper Termanology. Statik is definitely on the come up as we
head into 2006. |
 |
3.
DJ Warrior & The Cali Untouchables: DJ Warrior is considered
one of the most influential players on the West Coast within the hip-hop
industry. Beginning his career as a DJ at house parties and clubs, now after
10 years in the game, Warrior has moved on to being the official mix tape
DJ for various popular artists including, most recently, the legendary rap
group Dog Pound with Daz and Kurupt, released more than 50 mix tape CDs,
and has become a household name among celebrities as one of the top picks
for DJs. Currently, DJ Warrior is working on his first ever complete album
under Angeles/ Fontana/ Universal entitled, Cali Untouchable Radio, which
is due to release early 2007. |
 |
4.
DJ Chuck T: He’s been on his grind for the last couple of
years and 2006 was definitely a big year for him. Followed his trend of
consistently dropping CDs and moving them all over the world was simple..
In 2006 Chuck T upped his worth with a few more major magazine features
(The Source & Scratch) and a Justo Mix Tape Award. |
 |
5.
DJ Whoo Kid: Everyone hates him, but we all love his mix tapes.
No doubt Whoo Kid is all over the world with his signature style of mix
tape making as he’s been touring with G-Unit in 2006 and has one of
the most popular radio programs on Serius Shady 45 radio. Look for Whoo
Kid to do some production and of course more mix tape as we head into 2007.

 |
6.
Clinton Sparks: Is there any one more suited to do a blend/remix
mix tape other than Clinton Sparks? We think not. He’s been doing
it real big for years now and in 2006 he has gotten into the good graces
of Diddy, 50 Cent and Eminem. Not to mention his nationally syndicated radio
show, Smash Time Radio. So “Get Familiar!” Oh yeah… He
does beats too. |
 |
7.
DJ Big Mike: Always a consistent player on the mix tape scene.
No more needs to be said… This man gets exclusives before they’re
mixed down. |
 |
8.
DJ Kay Slay: He took Papoose and made him worth $1.5 million off
of some mix tape features. He should be number one just for that, but it
was a slow year for the man so we let some of the new dudes shine. Look
for Kay Slay to do more in 2007 with his record label, radio show and of
course the mix tapes. |
 |
9.
DJ Clue & DJ Envy: Always top players in the game. Their names
alone held enough weight to carry them through 2006 with just a few releases.
While Clue focused on getting his Professional 3 album out, Envy did his
thing on the radio and TV. Not to mention Envy kept it going with huge mix
tapes with Janet Jackson, Def Jam Records and So So Def Records. |

 |
10.
Superstar J: Another New York mix tape DJ… Well Superstar
J is different he can actually “deejay.” Making the transition
from radio deejay to mix tape personality was virtually effortless for him
in 2006 and he’s gotten a lot of artists behind him as he made his
rise. In 2006 he’s dropped with the likes of Gillie Da Kid and has
strong affiliations with G-Unit and Dipset, so he’s never short for
an exclusive. |
