VIDEO: NAS UNVEILS ‘NIGGER’ T-SHIRTS AT THE GRAMMYS

Submitted by Str8hiphop.com on February 11, 2008 - 7:25am.

I am sitting here watching ‘Live From The Red Carpet - The Grammy Awards’ on the E! Entertainment channel. So far Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, Ludacris, Souljah Boy and Rihanna have all walked the red carpet and have engaged in small talk with E! hosts.

Anyway, so I’m sitting here taking in all the fanfare when the camera zooms in on the arrival of Kelis and Nas…..

What I saw made me feel a little uncomfortable…..

Nas and members of his entourage decided to use this event to promote his forthcoming album by turning up to the Grammys wearing black T-Shirts with the word “Nigger” printed across the shirts in large grey capital letters…..

Now was it appropriate for them to unveil this controversial marketing tool at the prestigious Grammys?

i think what he was did. was smart. i mean he came at it. on a intelligent level. giving his meaning of the word. and what it meant to him.his answers to the questions were sound and he didnt come off as a dumb minded black man. so no i was pleased with him rebeling and wearing the shirt. i mean its a problem when a black man says the word. in public, on tv or in music. but white people have been saying it for years. and are still saying it , so when a black man exposes their ignorance and gives the word lesser meaning by providing the real meaning of the word. its a problem.its a problem when you show the world how racist. and how dirty the united states can really be.the white people in the U.S. dont want the rest of the world to see how anti civil rights. and pre civil war the U.S. still is.racisim is still very much alive. and any movement against in the least form. they wanna stop it.

"Prestigious grammys?" Fuck

"Prestigious grammys?" Fuck them. They're not for us; are we supposed to feel honored they let rappers and other black artists attend? We gotta stop having reverence for these American institutions that have spent most of their existences barely acknowledging ours. We don't gotta hold The Grammys to some high-ass standard b/c White America does. I don't agree w/all Nas does, but he's the self-proclaimed "Rebel to America" and that's what rebels do. We gotta maintain a certain level of rebelliousness and militancy regardless of our economic or social standing b/c no matter what we're all 2nd class citizens in this country. So, no, I don't have a problem w/what Nas did. Let the Most High be the judge. Peace.
