Interview By C4 (http://www.str8hiphop.com/user/50391)
SHH: Where are you from?
Chase Davis: I am from Bridgeport, CT.
SHH: How was it growing up in your area?
Chase Davis: It was cool I grew up in a weird community. My street felt like the burbs, but down the street were the projects. I got immersed in both worlds. I didn’t really get into drama or any bull growing up. Just a real chill person you know?
SHH: What’s the hip hop/R&B scene like in your area?
Chase Davis: What can I say it’s growing in the right direction. People are starting to take chances with their craft. Then you got a lot of dudes talking and not doing, like they waiting to be discovered.
SHH: When did you feel you wanted to start a career in music?
Chase Davis: In college man… I wrote growing up, but the bug didn’t hit me till college. I was an artist all through high school and most of college. My supply costs were getting crazy and a note book only cost 3 bucks. I switched goals out of necessity. The funny thing is music cost me a hell-of-a lot more! (Laughs)
SHH: What artists influence your music if any?
Chase Davis: At first it was Redman, Biggie (Notorious B.I.G.) , The Wu (Tang Clan), Boot Camp , Jay=Z, etc.. But then I stopped listening to rap. Now it more classic soul, rock, club and house.
SHH: How would you describe your style/sound to the people?
Chase Davis: I can’t say different because people compare me to Jay-Z and Kanye West a lot. If I had to describe it, it would be kinetic energy from line to line verse to verse.
SHH: What are you working on right now?
Chase Davis: Davis '68 minus 3. It’s my second project that is coming out very soon.
SHH: What's your outlook for 2008 (What are your goals for the year)?
Chase Davis: What every artist wants; to get heard and build my fan base!
SHH: What producers are you working with?
Chase Davis: Boonie May, Jimmy Flight, Hi-Fly and 2toxic, just to name a few.
SHH: Who would you like to work with in the future mainstream or underground?
Chase Davis: Homeboy Sandman, Louis Logic, Accapella and I really think T.I. is dope too.
SHH: What do you feel separates you from the next artist trying to make it in rap?
Chase Davis: I just do me I say what I think and I could care less about street cred or any bull that wakes another man up every day. I just try to have fun with it.
SHH: If not music what would you be doing?
SHH: Where can people check out some of your music?
Chase Davis: Everywhere iTunes, Amazon, Amalgam digital, Rhapsody Emusic to name a few. Get at me on MySpace @ myspace.com/davis1980.
:
SHH: Shout outs and thanks?
Chase Davis: Nope just hope you feel what you hear...
