High-Top Converse Lace Length: 54 or 63 Inches?
Use 54-inch laces as Converse’s standard high-top replacement. Choose 62–63 inches to match longer stock laces or leave more length for the bow.
Start with 54-inch (137 cm) replacement laces for most high-top Converse. Converse sells 54-inch high-top laces and says they fit shoes with up to eight pairs of eyelets (Converse).
Some high tops come with longer laces, however. LaceSpace lists the stock lace on a seven-pair Converse All Star High as 62 inches (157 cm), while Sneakerjagers says 63 inches (160 cm) is a popular choice for Chuck 70s (LaceSpace; Sneakerjagers). That is why both 54 inches and 62–63 inches appear in Converse lace guides.
Which length should you buy?

A Chuck-specific chart recommends 45-inch laces for seven eyelet pairs, 54 inches for eight pairs and 63 inches for nine pairs. It also suggests 63 inches when extra length is wanted on standard high tops (ChucksConnection).
The practical choice is straightforward:
- Buy 54 inches if your high tops have eight or fewer eyelet pairs and you want the standard replacement length Converse sells.
- Buy 62 or 63 inches if the original laces were noticeably long, you lace loosely or you want more lace above the top eyelets.
- Consider 45 inches for seven-pair shoes only if you prefer shorter ends or do not use every eyelet.
- Do not choose by “high top” alone. Platform models, Chuck 70s, children’s sizes and other Converse silhouettes can differ in eyelet count and spacing.
Why eyelet count is only a starting point
Two shoes with the same number of eyelet pairs can use different amounts of lace. Widely spaced rows consume more length on every crossover. A wider gap over the tongue, loose lacing and using every top eyelet also leave less material for the bow.

How to match the original laces
If one original lace is available, remove it and measure it from tip to tip while it lies straight. Include both plastic or metal tips. This is more dependable than identifying the shoe only as a Converse high top.
If the original lace is missing:
- Count pairs of eyelets, not individual eyelets.
- Choose 54 inches for up to eight pairs as the standard Converse replacement.
- Move to 62–63 inches when you want longer ends or have nine pairs.
- Check the seller’s metric length: 54 inches is about 137 cm, while 63 inches is about 160 cm.
For a factory-like appearance, choose flat laces. LaceSpace identifies the All Star High’s stock lace shape as flat, while Converse describes its 54-inch replacement as a woven polyester lace (LaceSpace; Converse).
